The Teams of the Virginia Conference

Ever wondered why we have teams in our conference—or what they actually do?

Why Teams?

Teams are a vital part of how our conference functions and moves forward in our mission to build God's kingdom. They provide space and connection to do the shared work of ministry, administration, and vision. This way we ensure that no single person or office carries the responsibility alone. Teams also open the door for everyone to find a way to use their God-given gifts to help in that work.

There are a lot of different kinds of work that go into helping our congregations to thrive as they grow God’s kingdom here in Virginia. In the Virginia Conference, we currently have nine main teams. These teams meet monthly to support and resource our churches, pastors, and people. So, why teams? When everyone works together for God’s glory, we get to be part of the great things He is doing among us!

What Do Teams Do?

Teams meet regularly to plan the work of the Conference and celebrate the progress of those plans. Most of the teams have one meeting of the full team each month combined with smaller working groups that focus on carrying out plans between meetings. That way, at the meetings progress can be shared and people can get prepared for the next tasks. For example, the Gathering Team is already at work preparing for Annual Conference 2026. Planning a gathering of this size takes time, collaboration, and careful attention to detail.

Throughout the year, the Gathering Team has a sub-team that coordinates speakers for main sessions and workshops, ensuring that the teaching and formation offered reflects the heart and direction of our conference. Another working group works closely with leaders from the host church, planning logistics from parking and security to food and child care. Yet another group collaborates with the Communications Team to align timelines for registration, promotion, and conference-wide communication. In the end, all the effort of the groups will bring you an amazing Annual Conference on May 28th through 30 th filled with worship, equipping, and most importantly the presence of the Holy Spirit to fill us up and send us out.

The Gathering Team is just one example of the important work happening across our teams. Each team plays a distinct role in supporting the mission of the conference.
