Presiding Elder – Northern Virginia District
Rev. Dr. Sung Yoo began full-time ministry in Virginia in 2003 and has served faithfully in a variety of pastoral and academic roles. Since 2023, he has been the lead pastor of Nokesville Methodist Church on the Northern Virginia District and currently serves as Presiding Elder for the region.
Dr. Yoo holds a Master of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, where his doctoral research focused on Christology in a Postmodern Context, engaging with the radical orthodoxy of theologian John Milbank. He also teaches online courses in Wesleyan Theology and Global Methodist Church Polity at United Theological Seminary in Ohio.
Sung has a deep passion for spiritual awakening and Spirit-led revival, believing God has given him a second chance to help cultivate a renewed movement of faithful discipleship and dynamic leadership within the church.
He is married to Wonsoon, and together they have one son, John—affectionately known as “John the Methodist.” Sung enjoys playing table tennis and drums, watching movies with his family, and traveling to new places with them.
